X-mas market in the caves

Last weekend we visited a X-mas market that was held in the local caves of a little town called Valkenburg that is situated in the very South of the Netherlands. It was great fun to stroll through these (manmade) caves and enjoy the X-mas spirit in such an unusual place. The rainy weather did not effect us and of course the gluhwein (warm wine) was great!

Sunday afternoon to Antwerp

Yesterday afternoon we drove to the beautiful city of Antwerp in Belgium to enjoy a Sunday walk under the sun in temperatures that have not occurred in 300 years in this part of the world in this time of the year namely 60 degrees fahrenheit (15 degrees Celcius). We did enjoy the views on the old buildings touched by a warm orange sunlight in the centre. Leslie had a great experience when she had to "play" an authentic "swing-organ" that was played by a very nice older artistic man. He was glad we liked his music that really sounded great on the old market square. The cathedral "Onze Lieve Vrouwe" was towering above it all and gave us a spectacular show of light and architectual details. After our walk and of course the necessary hot chocolate made with original Belgian bonbons we drove back to Boxtel.

Last time camping this year

Yesterday and today we went camping with our boat inside the Biesbosch National Park for most likely the last time this year as the winter will start soon. We arrived on our little camping island yesterday just before sunset. The weather was pretty nice, not too cold and dry. We had to search firewood in the dark though and that resulted in just enough wood for a nice little campfire. Being prepared for camping normally I totally went wrong this time as I forgot a very essential piece (the fuelpump) of our burner. Not be able to cook in a fancy way we had to go back to basic and cook our meal over the woodfire resulting in A) black pans, B) a big searchparty for more wood but most important C) a good meal.
After a night of good sleep we woke up in the morning with rain so we had to break down our camp in the wet. We were kind of succesfull with that and after a boatride of about 30 minutes we were back were we started. Although it was a short trip we did enjoy getting some fresh air though!

To the Chocolat Bar

Yesterday we went to a workshop about making your own chocolat bonbons. We got this workshop as a late wedding gift from our neighbours Tinie and Isabel who obviously know that we both like chocolat. The workshop was given by a chocolatier in the Chocolat Bar in the city of Nijmegen that is about an hour driving from where we live. We learned a lot about chocolat and how to make different kinds and of course we learned making our own bonbons which we proudly did. We went home with several boxes of delicious chocolat candy and the knowledge to start making our own bonbons in the future. I guess you should come visit one day to try them!
